a plan to help the auto industry. he's supported by lee aiko can and gm. he sold chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. mitt romney will fight for every american job. >>> i'm mitt romney and i approved this message. >> mitt romney did actually say he'd let detroit go bankrupt and he opposed the bailout and said if we did it it you could kiss the automotive industry good-bye and that didn't really work out. when they endorsed him, they said in spite of him screwing up so badly. the point where they say barack obama sold gm to italians who are going to build jooirps in china. this appears to be a spin on this ad from ohio last week. >> i saw a store today, one of the great manufacturers in this state, jeep. now owned by the italians, thinking of moving all production to china. i will fight for every good job in america and i'm going to fight to make sure trade is fair and if it's fair america will win. >> that line about jeep moving american jobs to china? moving all production to china? that is not true. chrysler is not moving its production to china. that is not at al
a listen to this. >> under president obama gm cut 15,000 american jobs, but they're planning to double the number of cars built in china, which means 15,000 more jobs for china. now comes word that chrysler plants will start making jeeps in, you guessed it, china. >> dana, i'm completely confused here. romney is now saying the bailout cost gm jobs, but he's also said obama did exactly what romney had prescribed. help me. >> well, let me see if i can here. what happened is romney put together this -- first of all, he started at a campaign rally misquoting what chrysler was, in fact, doing. they're not moving jobs to china. they're increasing some work in china to get around the tariffs over there. they've added 7,000 jobs in north america. the fact checkers went after him for that, so he put out an ad essentially saying the same thing on television. the fact checkers went after him for that and he put out a new ad on the radio making a worse and more false allegation. some time ago the pollsters said we're not going to let the fact checkers dictate our campaign and nobody can argue with
of dollars. -- of jobs. the federal government stands to lose $25 billion on in the investment with gm. is that too steep a price tag? >> i do not entirely agree with the presumption that the federal government stands to lose. i think that right now, the stock price suggests that there could be some long-term issues. but, i told you the story of the workers. i can talk to people at the line at the ford plant. i can talk to the people outside of dayton that supply gm and other companies. i can tell you literally hundreds of stories of people whose homes were saved, whose families are getting an education, who are getting along okay today because of that rescue. that is why people came together. that is why senator voinovich, republicans and democrats alike, it was not perfect, but look at where we are. we had 10.6% unemployment rate in 2010, now is 7%. it is going down. 20% of the gdp since the auto rescue. that has come from automobiles, 20%. a sharonville plant is hiring people for the first time in 12 years. honda has invested 100 million new dollars in their plants. chrysler and gm
over this new romney ad. >> who will do more for the auto industry? not barack obama? . obama took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy. and sold chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. >> reporter: after independent fact checkers raised questions about the ad, chrysler issued their own statement, writing, jeep production will not be moved from the united states to china. it's inaccurate to suggest anything different. but the romney campaign stands by the ad, noting to nbc news, that chrysler ceo never disputed any actual facts in their ads. a couple things, the president still not campaigning on the campaign trail tomorrow, instead he will tour new jersey with governor christie tomorrow. mitt romney, is resuming a full campaign schedule tomorrow. he'll be in the battleground state of florida. >> thanks, chuck. >>> when we come back, back to our storm coverage, specifically, a moment of crisis for a big hospital that included a lot of newborns who needed to move quickly. took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. >> to quote bill clinton, that takes brass. but that ad got four pinocchios from washington post, got pats on fire from politico. so obviously he stopped, right? wrong. he's now buying ohio ads in the ohio city home of the jeep plant. >> now come words that chrysler plans to start making jeeps in, you guessed it, china. what happened to the promises made to autoworkers in toledo and throughout ohio? the same hard working men and went who were told obama's auto bailout would help them? >> today chrysler's ceo sent a letter to employees saying, i feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position. jeep productions will not be moved from the united states to chi china. it is inaccurate to suggest anything different. inaccurate is a kind way of putting it. when corrected time and time again, governor romney has walked away from the truth. he hasn't fibbed, he hasn't mud idea the facts. he lied. and it's a lie he is selling to the people of ohio. it's desperate behavior from a de

bailout, gm goes and so goes the obama presidency and so goes the election. this campaign with so much attention focused on ohio, one in eight jobs are related somehow to the auto industry there. you see the romney campaign try to make a move and correct things. the question is whether it's too late and whether they're being hit very hard on this current attack that they've had on that jeep ad. >> thank you so much. greatly appreciate you coming on. we'll see what happens there. thank you, mark. massachusetts senator scott brown and elizabeth warren canceled their final debate for tonight as a result of hurricane sandy. in statements both candidates said going forward with the fourth debate would be, quote, inappropriate. it's after a new boston globe poll shows the race tied with brown slightly leading warren 45-43. you know there's a university poll out saying warren is up around 7 points. nevertheless there's a big shift from what you and what "the boston globe" indicated back in september. >> yeah. i think you've seen the volatility of this race. the majority of polls are still fav
's supported by lee iacocca and the "detroit news." obama took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sole chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. mitt romney will fight for every american job. >> they're not backing down, of course. they're also running misleading radio ads on the same topic. michael steele ised former chairman of the rnc and ron reagan is a radio talk show hosts. both of my guests are msnbc political analysts. i want to start with ron. this stuff, weeks ago the romney campaign said we're not going to let this campaign be run by fact checkers. i mean, i have never heard it said -- you just say we don't care if you find out we're lying. lying is a bad word. we don't care if you catch us. we're going to keep doing it. because we're desperate. >> yeah, well, they may be desperate. ohio is going to be the clincher for this election. everybody has been saying it and it's probably true. mitt romney probably hopes that the truth isn't going to find him in ohio at some point here. he's been a shape shifter his entire political career. this shouldn't surprise u

flash point, a romney tv ad running in ohio making this claim about gm. >> obama took chrysler and gm into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to italians that are going to build jeeps in china. >> reporter: campaigning with former president clinton vice president biden blasted the ad as false. >> chrysler has felt obliged to go public and say there is no truth. they say jeep has no intentions of shifting production of its jeep models out of north america to china. >> reporter: while mitt romney is technically not campaigning today, he is doing a storm relief event, savannah, in the state of ohio. >> chuck, and a lot of folks are asking us this morning, is there a possibility with this widespread power outages that could last days if not weeks, is there a chance the election day itself could be delayed? >> it's very unlikely. look, the presidential election day is something that is set in the constitution. now, states run electrics, and they can decide to postpone if they wanted to. it's happened before in new york city, of course, postponed in new york city elections on 9/11 on the day that
